When the two spheres of different capacitances are charged to different potentials and they are joined by a wire , then there will be the flow of charge till the two spheres attain the same potential . Due to the flow of charge through the connecting wires , some energy will be lost . This loss of energy is converted into the heat energy in the connecting wires . Hence , the total energy after connecting the spheres will decrease.
