The activity of cambium is influenced by physiological and envirnomental condition . In summer when there is more availability of water more xylem elements .i.e. vessels are formed having wider lumen. This wood is called early or spring wood.
In winter, when there is less water available in soil. less vessels are formed having narrow lumen . This wood is called late/autumn wood.
